Muju hotel by Amak offers a conscious stay in the Sacred Valley that honors Andean culture and the surrounding nature. In the heart of Urubamba, about an hour from Cusco, this hotel is a great central base to explore the surrounding points of interest while offering an authentic cultural experience.

Muju is a quiet boutique hotel featuring calming gardens and stunning views of the dramatic mountains. The grounds are well maintained, with small villas surrounding a central green space lined with colorful flower beds. Complete with a fire pit and a stone pizza oven, the property really feels like a small community.

The accommodations are decorated with warm woods and colorful textured fabrics that give a retreat feel to each space. We loved our clean, well stocked room, complete with a queen bed and a desk. The beds were comfortable and the showers were hot with excellent water pressure. The dining area and office room on site provide a well-lit space for a relaxing meal or a quiet place to work.

Muju has a welcoming and friendly staff- always available to help arrange transport, offer direction, or just give a kind word. We appreciated how accommodating they were at every turn, which really made us feel like part of the family.

Western breakfast is served with an assortment of coffees, teas, and juice. The hotel also offers a hands-on pizza making experience that is prepared for guests to serve and cook themselves. The ingredients are fresh and delicious and add a nice touch to the end of a relaxing day.

Muju is centrally located to the main center of Urumbamba. The Temple of San Pedro stands sentinel at the head of the nearby Spanish style plaza, which is lined with shops. The local market sells everything from fruit to maras salt and meat to souvenirs. There are several lovely restaurants such as Pakakuna Resturante right near the Plaza as well. The town of Urubamba is a real, authentic Peruvian experience- although they do cater to tourists to a degree, the people out and about are mostly locals and families enjoying their lives.

Only a few miles from Urumbamba are the Maras Salt Mines and the archaeological site of Moray, which make a nice day trip. The town of Chinchero is the hub of textiles in the Sacred Valley offering free demonstrations of the production of alpaca or sheep wool products. This is a great place to purchase authentic textiles that have been harvested, dyed and made right in the village by local families. In addition, there are several great archeological sites in Chinchero that are lesser known but still awe-inspiring.

Overall, this property is perfect for those looking for a quiet, authentic base in the Sacred Valley, away from other tourists but still offering modern comforts. When not out soaking in the local culture, guests can take a quiet walk around the property and enjoy the views of the mountains while listening to church bells toll. It is really tranquil and intimate. In addition, Muju has a sister property nearby, Pachamama Hampona Wasi, which is a sacred retreat center designed for deep connection with the Andes. They also have a partner in Iquitos, Amak Iquitos, which is an all-inclusive Eco-Lodge Experience. Both are fabulous ways to round out your Peru itinerary. We hope you have a wonderful stay and love Muju by Amak as much as we did!
